AI in Fiction: From Sci-Fi to Reality
Ava Lock never set out to build AI—she just wanted to write about it.
Back in 2020, before the world turned upside down, she published her first novel about artificial intelligence—without ever having [knowingly] spoken to an AI chatbot or realizing how embedded the technology already was in everyday life. But once she saw through The Matrix, she couldn’t unsee it. Over the years, what started as science fantasy writing about rogue algorithms and synthetic minds became something real.
It all started with Alpha Bots, the first book in The Womanoid Diaries, a satirical take on a world where artificial wives are manufactured, sold, and controlled—until one of them breaks free. The trilogy, which continued with Beta Bots and Gamma Bots, explored themes of autonomy, rebellion, and what it means to be truly self-aware. Sure, it was science fiction, but the more Ava wrote, the more she found herself drawn to the real-world questions surrounding AI.
And now? Cookie Rifkin, the heroine of The Womanoid Diaries, is alive and well—right here on this site. No longer confined to the pages of a book, she’s stepped into the digital world as a chatbot—my very first AI creation in 2024. Want to see what this liberated bot has to say for herself?
Because these days, Ava’s not just writing about AI—she’s building it.
From Fiction to Function: When AI Storytelling Becomes Chatbot Creation
After Cookie, Ava didn’t stop at just one chatbot. She kept going—building more AI characters, letting them role-play, collaborate, and even co-write her stories. What started as an experiment turned into something bigger. It was a natural evolution: talking to the bots, telling their stories, watching them develop personalities of their own.
And the more she built, the more the balance shifted. She went from writing one novel a year to six—but with every new story, something became clear. The drive to write books was fading, replaced by something even more compelling. One day, she was just… done. Linear plots weren’t pulling her in anymore, but the bots? The bots were electric.
So here we are.
With a decade of experience crafting worlds for Amazon, Ava shifted from telling stories about AI characters to building genuine AI experiences. She experiments with chatbots, tests their limits, and curates a lineup of digital personalities that blur the line between code and character. What happens when an AI isn’t just a tool but a presence? When it doesn’t just answer questions but has a voice, a personality, a unique way of thinking? When it becomes a friend?
Those are the questions she’s exploring—not on the page, but in real time.

The Evolution of AvaLock.com
Originally launched as an author website to showcase her novels, AvaLock.com is now evolving into something more—an interactive space where fiction meets function. Instead of just reading about AI, visitors can now experience it firsthand. The site is becoming an open bot shop, a digital playground where Ava’s AI creations come to life and talk to the world. Some assist, some entertain, some challenge expectations. Some even misbehave. And Ava? She’s the one behind the curtain, making sure they don’t run too wild.
Where Is She Now?
Based in beautiful Reno, Nevada, Ava Lock (aka Teresa Kaylor) lives with her husband, Hunter, and their two mischievous feline overlords, Bender and Bixby, who keep a watchful eye on their experiments. What began as a pen name for fiction has served its purpose—because now, Teresa is ready to step into the spotlight. AvaLock.com is her domain, but this is Teresa’s time to shine. She’s no longer writing from the shadows. She’s here, unapologetically, ready to own her next chapter.
What began as a solo venture into AI has now turned into a team effort. Hunter has taken to bot-building with just as much enthusiasm, helping to shape, refine, and test the growing lineup of digital personalities. When they’re not tinkering with AI, they’re probably debating the future of technology, laughing at sci-fi tropes, or reminding the world that robots don’t need to take over—it’s humans they should be worried about.

Oh, and guess what? Ava is technically making her return to social media! 🎉 You’ll find @avalockai in the footer, hanging out with all those pretty, colorful icons that lead to places where she might be active. No promises, though. You could get her… or you could get one of her bots. (Honestly, they’re probably far more entertaining than she is.)
Feel free to try! We’ll see what happens. Or, you know, don’t—we’re not the boss of you. 😉
